Barn & Vine: The Process of the Phoenixville Project Part III / by Tara Tayan

Farmland

Although some of the areas of abandonment were once used agriculturally, farming still thrives around Phoenixville.  This led me to my final piece of open space.  At first, farmland did not occur to me as open spaces in nature because agriculture often consists of reworking the land.  However, I believe that when farming is done in a sustainable manner it maintains the integrity of the open space in nature, land that might otherwise be developed.  Plus, many of the barns and silos in the area are still the original structures giving many of the farmsteads a very rustic look.
